"The Weningers have expanded their acreage around Horitschon so as to utilize solely their own organically-grown grapes, and have scored increasingly impressive successes as well at the southern edge of the Neusiedlersee in Balf, Hungary, a project in which Franz Weninger’s son Franz Reinhard takes the lead. (And there is still a joint project with Attila Gere of Villany with Bordelaise varieties in southern Hungary as well.) Weninger’s wines have always been powerful, at times at the expense of refinement, but on the strength of my recent experiences, their style has evolved, evidently as a result of among other factors less aggressive extraction during fermentation and an ability to achieve ripe flavors without too high a level of sugar and consequent alcohol. Certainly few Austrian red wine growers have become more enthusiastic or promotionally creative about the message of terroir. The single-vineyard 2006 Blaufrankisch bottlings here, including the Spern Steiner from Balf, are impressive – and the Weningers’ bright, vivid material from 2007 looked promising from barrel last summer."
Struktura znakomita, taniny dojrzałe, i wspaniały śliwkowy finisz.
